Pennine Way Guest Review

Great review posted today on our direct booking platform from a guest who recently stayed with us.

This type of review really makes us smile when you read it.

"Walking the Pennine Way we'd camped the prevous nights at Garrigill and Knarsdale with negligible facities so were hoping for a bit of luxury. Our wet, dirty and dishevelled appearance clearly did not faze the kind proprietor of this clean, tidy and rather smart establishment who was unflappably warm and friendly to everyone throughout our short stay. For very little more than the price of the smallest and most traditional BnB, Vallum Lodge with its half a dozen or so modern rooms along a ground floor corridor is much more akin to a hotel experience, yet still amounts to a welcome into a private home, with the same friendliness and personal touches. The breakfast was exceptional (we used to cook hotel breakfasts so we know a thing or two), prepared by somebody who really knows what they're doing, fresh, hot, delicious with quality ingredients and real touches of luxury like home-made lemon curd, and served with that combination of professional efficiency and genuine friendliness which is so hard to pull off. We really appreciated the lavish hot water, generous hot drink facilities and the life-saving honesty bar. I found perfectly good Wi-Fi in the comfortable lounge. Despite the building being adjacent to a road this was not busy and our room was extremely peaceful. Booking online, we raised our eyebrows over the suburban appearance of the establishment, but don't be put off - surrounded by chickens and horses this is professional hospitality in a quirky, quiet, rustic but convenient location, every bit as characterful, warm and friendly as the most traditional farmhouse. Staying here was a joyful experience, and having worked in a small hotel I don't say that very often!"
